Tropical Sangria {Non-alcoholic}

Sangria is generally made with wine. But this sangria is bubbly and has the same fruity flavor minus the alcohol, which not only looks amazing it tastes great too. This is a perfect non alcoholic drink for your New Years’s eve party. It will definitely please your friends who are the designated drivers, it makes teens and young kids who can’t have alcohol so happy that they are not left out when everyone toasts with champagne.

The best part about this drink is, there is no need to set any limits. You can indulge without any guilt and there is no compromise on the taste.  This is such an easy make ahead drink so less stress on the day of the party.

There are so many different ways to make sangria. But I wanted mine to have a tropical flavor so instead of grape juice I used mango juice as my base which gave this drink the most beautiful golden color.

Let me tell you the reason for this… We Indians believe anything that resembles the color of gold brings prosperity and good luck to us. That’s why on the day of the new year we make treats and beverages with saffron and Jaggery( unrefined cane sugar ) which gives a natural golden color. I wanted my sangria to reflect the same so I used lemons, mangoes, pineapple and oranges … Doesn’t this look festive !

Let me show you how I made this ….

Ingredients

  • Lemons – 2
  • Limes – 2
  • Oranges- 2
  • Pineapple chunks – 1/4 cup
  • mango chunks – 1/4 cup
  • Strawberries cut in half – 1/4 cup
  • Mango juice – 1 cup
  • Pineapple juice – 1/2 cup
  • Simple syrup – 1 cup  (1 cup of sugar dissolved in 1 cup of boiling water and chilled)
  • Cold water – 1 cup
  • Chilled Sparkling water or plain soda – 1 can / bottle

Wash all the fruits in warm water, use a brush and clean it really nice.

Before you juice them remember to cut some thin slices, cover it and keep it in the fridge. We will be adding this to the drink later.

Take a big pitcher, add the mango juice and the pineapple juice

I just used the regular store bought juice. You can also use fresh unsweetened juices.

Add the juice of lemons, limes and oranges which comes up to 1/2 cup

You want the drink to be smooth so pour it through a sieve, this eliminates the pulp.

Add the sugar syrup, keep in mind the store bought juices are sweetened so don’t add all of it, just add a little bit at a time

Taste it, only if it needs more sweetness then add the rest of the syrup.

Now pour a cup of water. Mix it well, cover and chill for at least 3 hours. I made mine sit overnight to get the best results.

Do not add the fruit slices now, If it’s soaked for a long time it gives a bitter taste to the drink.

Keep in mind the sangria will be slightly concentrated at this stage which is perfectly okay. Later on, we are going to top it with sparkling water which will balance the taste perfectly .

Once the drink is chilled, add the fruit slices and chunks just 2 hours before you serve it and keep it refrigerated until the guests arrive.

The sangria is ready, One thing that’s missing is the fizz and now is the time to add it. I just poured a whole bottle of strawberry flavored sparkling water to get the effervescence.

I chose the strawberry flavor because that is the only juice I didn’t add, since it gives a pink hue to the drink. This way you get the flavor and yet keep the golden color of the drink.

You can also use plain sparkling water, lemon lime soda or ginger ale which tastes great too.

Oh my ! it has got the amazing sunny orange color, the fruit slices have added a depth to the flavor, all the juices have melded nicely which gave this a divine fruity flavor. Feels like you are looking through a kaleidoscope, isn’t this colorful.

Once you add the sparkling water immediately serve it to your guests.

It looks amazing when it’s served in a wine glass or a martini glass, just make sure each glass gets a slice of lime or lemon and some strawberries or fruit chunks. Since there is no alcohol in it you can drink it to your heart’s content.

Let’s take a sip, Mmm …. it’s bubbly, fruity and refreshing!

Since I specially made this for the New Year’s toast, I like to serve it in these cute shot glasses instead of the champagne flute to avoid mix ups.

I love to set up a beautiful table scape for any occasion. So I used this golden tray as the center piece which fits the theme perfectly and used these snowflake ornaments as coasters to rest the drink. So when the count down starts your guests can easily grab a drink for the toast.

I have also kept some party hats, noisemakers, confetti poppers and fun light up head bands for kids. I assure you this will be one awesome party that everyone will remember. Look how beautiful the table scape is …

Now that we got everything ready, Let the party begin … 🎉

May this New Year be as bright and golden as this festive drink.

CHEERS Everyone! Here’s to a Happy and Healthy 2017 !

Happy New Year !! 🎉
